Workshop Outline:

  1. Introduction to Playwright: We will start with a brief introduction to Playwright, its features, and advantages. And let’s compare it with other similar tools like Selenium and Cypress.
  2. Basic JavaScript for Testers: We understand that not all testers and/or everyone have extensive experience with JavaScript or might be zero at all. Hence, this section will cover the basic concepts and syntax that will be used throughout the workshop.
  3. Quick Intro On Tests: Let’s get started by checking out the sample generated tests and understand the basic anatomy of a test. Let’s also explore the default Playwright configuration and finally, let’s learn to interpret a test run report.
  4. Writing Our Own Tests via Codegen: Now, it’s your turn, I’ll show you how to quickly generate a test and you will go through each requirement on your own and see what you can come up.
  5. Advanced Playwright & Best Features: Building on the basics, we will delve deeper into Playwright and improve our tests by using fixtures and incorporating other best practices.
  6. Debugging Playwright Scripts: Participants will learn how to debug their Playwright scripts. We will cover using Playwright’s debug logs, running scripts in headful mode, and utilizing browser developer tools.
  7. CI with GitHub Actions. Playwright tests can be run on any CI provider. In this part we will cover running tests on GitHub using GitHub actions. If you would like to see how to configure other CI providers check out our detailed doc on Continuous Integration.
  8. Real-world Test Scenarios worth mentioning. In real life scenarios, we will be also handling tests like with authentication, responsive design tests, navigation tests, form submissions, file uploads, API interactions, data-driven tests, accessibility tests and many more. Let’s quickly go through examples of each and learn how we can do all of this.
